If you follow the franchise, you may have heard rumors about Silent Hill: The Short Message. If not, it’s a rumored upcoming game in the franchise, some concept art of which seemingly leaked in May of 2022. When the Silent Hill digital event was streamed last year, however, no new information emerged, despite a plethora of new content being announced, including several games and a new movie. In January of this year, however, the rumors continued to mount when it was discovered that Silent Hill: The Short Message was rated in Taiwan, further fueling frenzied fans.
Now, known and often reliable leaker DuskGolem has made statements about supposed plot details surrounding The Short Message. It is worth noting that this game has not been formally announced yet, nor are any of these details official, so they should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, however, DuskGolem has proven to be a fairly reliable leaker in the past, including leaking very accurate information about Resident Evil Village months before it was ever announced, as well as the previously mentioned concept art images, which were later removed by copyright strikes.

Some of the leaked concept art in question shows a creature that appears to be made of cherry blossom tree parts, something Masahiro Ito (creature designer for Team Silent) specifically stated in 2018 that he wanted to explore, especially as he was growing tired of the overuse and commercialization of Pyramid Head, which was originally designed specifically to fit into Silent Hill 2 and inadvertently became a series staple.
As seen in a Reddit post with screenshots of a conversation with DuskGolem, he notes that the details he is now giving for the game relate only to the opening and initial setup for the game’s plot, so any spoilers therein are light. He also notes that this information relates to the game as it existed in “late 2020,” and thus may no longer be relevant to The Short Message as it may exist today, saying “if it’s not canceled it might’ve changed.”
What Is The Short Message About?

According to DuskGolem, The Short Message stars a 17-year-old girl named Anita, who he later describes as “a bit [of an edgelord.]” Anita had a friend named Maya, who was popular in her class while Anita was “invisible.” They started to grow apart because Anita’s tendencies became more destructive and disturbing, including “looking at shocking things on the internet, slitting her wrists” and funneling her issues into a story she was writing. Suddenly, Maya committed suicide, sending Anita spiraling, at which point she “decides to go to the place that Maya took her life at to better understand” what she may have been dealing with.
The story also supposedly involves an extra layer of mystery relating to an unknown person posting things on Maya’s social media accounts. DuskGolems further notes that “this synopsis has very little spoilers” and that “it’d be what you’d learn in the very beginning of the game.” He further teased details about the game, suggesting that it will involve a series of apartment buildings with a deep history attached to them, one of which is the building Maya ended her life inside of.

Until we receive an official announcement for The Short Message, however, fans will merely have to speculate and chew on leaks such as this. Regardless, there is plenty of Silent Hill content to look forward to between the remake of Silent Hill 2, the Annapurna-led Silent Hill: Townfall, the interactive streamed story event Silent Hill: Ascension, an upcoming film from the director of the 2006 film titled Return to Silent Hill which aims to adapt the second game, and finally Silent Hill f, a wild new take on the franchise written by Ryukishi07, taking it into 1960s Japan.
