Fans were excited about the game and were looking to play it, but it soon lost its charm. They have now realized that the publisher has been doing this for years with several titles in its library, including games like Assassin’s Creed, Watch Dogs, and more, and has done it all over again.

Skull and Bones Isn’t the Only Recent Ubisoft Title That Has Disappointed Players

After the disappointing launch of Skull and Bones, one fan took to the Gaming subreddit and called Ubisoft “the king of the bargain bin.” They stated that the publisher has followed the same formula for years now and named a few games, making comparisons. The fan said that 2016’s Tom Clancy’s The Division was “just a fine enough” game, and people dismissed it soon.

They mentioned that the game went from its $60 original price to $20 in less than a year. The fan further added that Assassins Creed Origins, Far Cry 5, and Watch Dogs 2, which were released in 2017, 2018, and 2016, respectively, were already less than $20 in 2018. They said that this trend has only “increased tenfold” from the publisher in 2024.

They added that games like Immortals Fenyx Rising, AC Valhalla and Mirage, Rainbow Six Extraction, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, The Division 2, and many others are rotting in “bargain bins because no one wants them. Why? Because they’re all as generic as you can get.”

The player said that the publisher has one formula that it has used for all games where it adds an open world, third-person with objects lying around the map, a loot system, and RPG skill mechanics, and the player could decide to pick any title, but they find the same experience in all of them.

Skull and Bones Hasn’t Been Worth the Wait for the Fans

The game has been criticized for its gameplay, animation, and more and currently sits at a 3.2 user score.

The fan called Ubisoft “the definition of insanity.” Many fans agreed to this, and a player added that the company is “Applebee’s of gaming,” and while it presents something nice, it isn’t better. Another player said they wished the company hadn’t “murdered Ghost Recon.”

The fan further said that Skull & Bones is no different, and it is definitely not an “AAAA game.” The game has turned out to be a massive disappointment for players, with no proper features such as ship-boarding, arcade combat, treasure-finding, and more that were promised pre-release.

The game has also been criticized for its animations and character models and for asking $70 for a title in this state and with this quality. The game currently has a Metascore of 64 and a user review of 3.1 based on 480 ratings, and it does not seem like the game is going to survive like this for long.
