Fallout 76 had taken a back seat in the years following its release, with Bethesda focusing more on Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI. The game’s popularity was reignited with the release of the Fallout TV series on Amazon Prime, which was well-received by the audience.

The recent hype helped the game redeem itself while news of its sequel surfaced, to which Todd Howard, the director and executive producer of the game, has not revealed any details yet. However, he was very joyous with the response the game is getting after the successful run of the Fallout TV series.

Fallout 76 rises from the ashes

Fallout 76 has been losing its relevance in recent times. The game had become stagnant due to Bethesda’s focus shifting towards its other titles, Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI, which are among the most anticipated games from the studio.

However, after the success of the Fallout TV series, the game’s fame has been revived, with players returning to it and multiple updates coming their way. Fallout 76 released its first-ever map extension on June 12, 2024, which came out less than 3 months after its previous DLC, America’s Playground. It is a very quick turnaround for Fallout 76, as the game has never received major updates in such short succession.

In an interview with IGN, Howard was asked about a potential update regarding the sequel of Fallout 76. He abstained from giving a definitive answer about it and focused on appreciating the response Fallout 76 is getting at the moment. He said:

“I’m going to avoid putting dates on anything. I’ve learned that the hard way. So obviously, our focus as far as new development right now is Elder Scrolls VI, but that doesn’t mean that we’re not making plans for other things. We’re still doing a lot of work, obviously on Fallout 76, and we see the community, so many people going into that game and kind of rediscovering it and just so happy with where that game is at.

The Fallout series, created by Graham Wagner, Jonathan Nolan, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, among many others, was well received by the audience and managed to revive the failing relevance of Fallout 76, followed by back-to-back DLC updates, America’s Playground, and the most recent map expansion with Skyline Valley.

Skyline Valley breathes freshness into the game

Skyline Valley is Fallout 76’s first map extension and the biggest expansion in the game yet. It includes an entirely new area called Skyline Valley, which enables players to play as ghouls for the first time.

Ghoul gameplay in an entirely new setting is a refreshing update for the game, allowing players to explore unique playstyles and giving them perks never seen before. Although this limits interactions with certain settlements in the game, it’s still a major step in the revival of the game.

As soon as a player logs into the game after updating, they will obtain the quest “An Unlikely Invitation” and then tune into the radio station Vault-Tec Radio Broadcast. After following the area encircled in the map, they will encounter Alyssa in a farmhouse, who will lead them to the Ash Heap to search for Vault 63.

Upon encountering the entry to Vault 63 through a cave with black smoke coming out of it, the next quest, “Into Unknown Lands” will begin. This will allow players to enter Vault 63 in the Skyline Valley and explore the new region.
