The executive producer Jonathan Nolan of the upcoming TV series Fallout has shared some interesting information about the show. Judging by Nolan’s words, the game won’t be a basic live-action adaptation of the video game, but something much bigger. The creators have been given enough creative freedom for them to focus on coming up with an original story.
In the latest interview, Nolan compared the development of the series to adapting Batman. He served as a credited writer on The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012) alongside brother Christopher Nolan. Jonathan Nolan feels like the process of creating the series is so complex and different that they’re “almost Fallout 5,” just a non-interactive version of it. However, this statement has left many fans disappointed as they are worried the show will stray away from the source material.
Jonathan Nolan compared the Fallout TV series to The Dark Knight trilogy
In a recent interview with TotalFilm, Jonathan Nolan opened up about the experience of working on the upcoming Fallout TV series, based on the video game series of the same name. The executive producer of the series compared the series to The Dark Knight trilogy in terms of storytelling as it allows him to “invent his own,”
“Fallout, in my career, is closest to the work we did in adapting Batman, where there’s so much storytelling in the Batman universe that there is no canonical version of it, so you’re free to invent your own.”
Nolan was a credited writer on The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012) alongside his brother, Christopher Nolan. This comparison has left some fans wondering if Nolan’s Fallout TV series will wander away from the source material.
Fans are sure the show is butchered
Nolan’s statement left the fans disappointed, particularly the part where he compared it to Batman, saying there is no canonical version of it. Many fans are sure that the show will be butchered as the showrunners might stray away from the video game lore.
Okay, so it’s gonna suck. Got it

Further in the interview, Nolan explained that their new story almost makes their show like a non-interactive Fallout 5, the next video game in the installment,
“Each of the [Fallout] games is a discrete story – different city, distinct protagonist – within the same mythology. Our series sits in relation to the games as the games sit in relation to each other. It’s almost like we’re Fallout 5. I don’t want to sound presumptuous, but it’s just a non-interactive version of it, right?”
The post-apocalyptic drama television series is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on April 12, 2024. So far, it is known that Hollywood stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins will be making an appearance in the series.
