The renewed hype on legal drama series Suits prompted creator Aaron Korsh to develop an offshoot for NBCUniversal. While deals are still being negotiated, as the show ended in 2019 after nine spectacular seasons, the upcoming installment will not be a remake or reboot.

The team is seemingly looking into a new location for the procedural set, and reports claim that they have been eyeing Los Angeles as the new setting. It is also unlikely that the original cast members would return given that it is a fresh take on Suits.

New Suits Series Will Introduce A Fierce Female Lead

In a newsletter from Puck News, the upcoming Suits series will feature a new main character named Erica whose description goes:

30s, Black, SoCal native, and Harvard law alum. She’s jockeying to be made Head of Entertainment. She’s great at closing clients but struggles elsewhere. Smarter than everyone.”

Based on this statement, fans speculate that the studio is bringing a similar character cut from the same cloth that made Meghan Markle the Rachel Zane of the show. The actress notably left Suits after the Season 7 finale to divert her attention to royal duties after she married Prince Harry.

They had not found any replacement for the character since her departure, but it seems the team behind Suits wants to draw inspiration from Rachel Zane, whom viewers will soon meet in the upcoming series.

While this news brings excitement to many fans, some were devastated to know that they won’t see their favorite original characters again. Others simply disliked the “woke” idea, as evident in their tweets below:

Suits creator Aaron Korsh previously spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and spilled the beans on what he wrote after working with Suits. He admitted feeling wiped out after rigorously helming the legal drama show, and after the pandemic, he started drafting a new story again. Korsh believes it has the same charm as the original series.

I believe it has plenty of DNA of what people liked about Suits. I think it’s a cousin of Suits, but more reflective of wherever I was when I wrote it.”

He did not confirm whether the spec script he wrote is the one currently in the works, though it seems likely.

Without giving away too many details, it took place in two different time periods and two different worlds, one of which was the world of law and the other was the world of agents, and we did sell it, but it didn’t get made.”

The latest update definitely yielded mixed reactions from fans. Still, Korsh trusts that avid viewers of the show will appreciate the new world he will introduce through the lens of a different character. Besides, the franchise was a massive hit around the world.
