The first season of The Boys feels like it aired over 5 years ago. Wait… it actually did. The point is, that Antony Starr’s Homelander feels different from the present times and fans may have figured out why.

From letting a plane full of civilians crash to literally forcing a person to commit suicide, Homelander is as psychotic as he is terrifying. A person aptly described Homelander as ‘a storm waiting to happen’. Well, that is what’s missing in the current season of The Boys.

Antony Starr’s Homelander Was Different In Season 1

Do you remember the opening scene of The Boys? Not the A-Train one but when Homelander appears for the first time. An innocent and yet brave man who will take on the bravest of the tasks to ensure world peace. Turns out we were so wrong.

When Translucent gets kidnapped, Hughie, Butcher, and, Frenchie hold him captive in a cage. In the second episode of the first season, titled “Cherry”, Homelander goes on a search for Translucent and appears at the location of Butcher’s hideout.

With a bomb in Translucent’s you-know-where, the Boys are actually terrified of Homelander. Having X-ray vision and superhearing, Frenchie and Butcher devise an elaborate plan to lure Homelander away from their hideout. This doesn’t happen, however, without a few hiccups.

Homelander tries to X-ray vision Frenchie’s car until an explosion happens in the distance set off by Butcher and Cherie. The almost five-minute scene has Homelander killing no one and yet, is somehow chilling to see.

Homelander Is A Strom Waiting To Happen

Another scene was shared on Reddit when Homelander flies alongside the plane of the Mayor of Baltimore. Traveling with his kid, the child sees a storm and Homelander flying alongside them.

As the little kid waves, the Mayor is visibly scared. In the reflection of the window, Antony Starr’s Homelander can be seen reddening his eyes and shooting a laser from it. The end result… a plane split and burning in half falling to the ground.

Although technically, Homelander did some killing (but it was off-screen) and it was terrifying. As the Reddit discussion ensued, fans felt that moments like these were missing from the latest season of The Boys.

“Homelander flying around looking for translucent were some of the coolest scene” said a fan while another pointed “Homelander hasn’t done anything in a while that makes him feel like an apocalypse event waiting to happen.”

However, the contradicting point is that Homelander has become crazy. He has literally become his true self and the apocalypse waiting to happen has already happened.

The world knows what Homelander is capable of, which wasn’t the case in season 1 of the show. Hence, the anticipation of what Homelander will do is left in the present season of The Boys.

However, this doesn’t mean that the series has lost its charm since the world is quite enjoying The Boys and Antony Starr’s antics during interviews. With 4 seasons to its name, The Boys is available to stream on Prime Video in the U.S.
