Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is going to be a nostalgic journey as it goes back to its roots, but it will follow a new hero, Noa. As the movie continues with its plot that involves intelligent apes dominating the Earth, it is going to delve into how their culture has evolved, further unraveling the antagonist, Proximus Caesar’s interpretation of Caesar’s teachings.
With the previous installments of the reboot getting widespread acclaim, film director, Wes Ball expressed that a much-demanded spin-off can be worked upon, but it would be someone else.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Director Wes Ball Talks About a New Chapter in the Franchise!
The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes serves as the sequel to the 2017 hit, War for the Planet of the Apes, and marks the fourth installment in the rebooted franchise.
However, the film director Wes Ball, who has been involved in this project for nearly five years, reflected on how fans were anticipating Cornelius’ adventures but what he created would open new opportunities to work on something beyond their expectations.
While speaking to Screen Rant during Wonder Con, he revealed the challenges he faced while making the film, including those related to the Pandemic. He further expressed audiences’ anticipation to witness Cornelius on-screen, but won’t mind if someone else works on that story,
“I know there’s people that wanted to see Cornelius and The Adventures of Cornelius. Someone can still do that story.”
Following the end of War for the Planet of the Apes, many speculated that the franchise’s fourth entry would likely follow Caesar’s last surviving son, Cornelius. However, the Ball-led project features Noa in the center.
Talking about his project, he clarified that it is “a new chapter in this long legacy of movies since 1968.” As he honors the previous works, he added that “we tried very hard to find is that balance between being our own thing, but still feeling like it belonged. Not just tonally, but even story-wise.”
He continued,
“We are an extension, a continuation of that Caesar legacy, but we are our own new characters and story, and it opens up new opportunities.”
It is still early to address whether the new perspective would retain the franchise’s successful box-office performance. However, Ball seems to be fine with a project involving Caeser’s last family member.
Cornelius, the son of Caesar and Cornelia, is an evolved chimpanzee, who is the sole heir to Caesar’s throne. With his genius-level intellect, he can use sign language and speech to communicate. However, he only used sign language in the War for the Planet of the Apes (noting that he was only two years old at the time, he would have been unable to speak). It would be interesting to witness his spin-off but for now, all eyes are on the upcoming movie due to its marketing stunt!
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: Apes on the Beach
As the movie is just days away, the film’s marketing team has come up with an interesting idea to captivate audiences’ interest in the project. In widely circulating online videos, visitors of L.A.’s famed Venice Beach were surprised to witness ape-disguised humans riding on horses at the shore.
While their actions were not like the apes the fans witnessed in the trailer, they surely gave an intense, convincing stare to the audience.
Whereas, the online community is going bananas over the stunt and praised it while expressing their excitement for the upcoming film.
Starring Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy, it is set to release in the US on May 10.
