Sony And Marvel Rumored To Have Extended Their MCU Spider-Man Deal

Spider-Man is a hot commodity for both Sony and Marvel/Disney. Due to his affiliation with the MCU, he has been profitable for both Marvel and Sony. We were given a bit of a scare last year when things fell apart between Sony and Disney, but both production houses came back strongly. They signed a short deal which allowed Spider-Man 3 to be set in the MCU. Furthermore, Peter Parker got the permission to appear in yet another MCU crossover film. But the plan beyond that hasn’t been finalized yet.

After we exclusively reported the fact that Spider-Man 3 will be a multiverse movie, there have been recent theories suggesting that Spider-Man 3’s bold move could be setting up his departure from the MCU. Now don’t be scared just yet. The hosts of “The DisInsider Show,” Skyler Shuler and Derek Cornell have revealed a great little piece of information. Under the “Rumor of the Week” segment on their latest Patreon episode, Cornell stated that Marvel has “extended the [Spider-Man] deal” with Sony. Kevin Feige has major plans for Spider-Man as the Wall Crawler is supposed to play “a pivotal role” in the future of MCU.

The kind of character that Spider-Man is, Feige would always have bigger plans for him. But the bottom line is that Spider-Man is not going anywhere. For now, we’ve got to take Conrell and Shuler’s intel as a grain of salt until we hear an official announcement. Things will depend upon how Spider-Man 3 performs at the Box Office because both Sony and Disney have a 75-25 investment/profits deal upon the film. But it is highly likely that the rumor will turn out to be true because there’s no way Spider-Man 3 is going to fail. Sony is already getting to use Spider-Man in other SPUMC films. So, I don’t see why they will pull Spider-Man out of the MCU now.

It remains to be seen as to which other MCU film(s) Tom Holland is going to star in. My money is on the next Fantastic Four movie, but we’ve got to wait and see about that. Beyond Fantastic Four, we’d love to see more Spider-Verse films in the future. In fact, Spider-Man 3 should actually set up a real Spider-Verse event, which will take place in MCU’s Spider-Man 4. Besides that, it’d be great if Spider-Man gets to team up with Deadpool, Blade and Daredevil. And there’s no question in the fact that he should also be a part of future Avengers films.

Spider-Man 3 is already turning out to be the most anticipated movie of 2021. You’ve got to be excited for it as a long with Tom Holland, the likes of Tobey Maguire, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Kirtsen Dunst, Jake Gyllenhaal and many other actors are supposed to have appearances. It arrives on December 17, 2021.
