God of War is one of the biggest names in Sony’s roster and its popularity is endlessly growing. Last year, at The Game Awards, God of War won Game Of The Year and landed the same victory at DICE and now, Sony wants to capitalise on that with a film.

Pacific Rim: Uprising writer Steven DeKnight revealed his interest in creating a movie while speaking to ComicBook.

“I had some early conversations with the good people at Sony PlayStation about. Not only that, but Sony were surprisingly the ones who were keen on making sure there was enough blood and gore to go around if Kratos were to make his film bow in a God of War movie.”

DeKnight has expressed interest in a God of War film adaptation before on Twitter. The writer also has an actor in mind to play Kratos, Dave Batista. DeKnight’s pick for Kratos makes perfect sense, especially in terms of appearance.

He said, “Well, who would you have to have Kratos? And immediately for me: Dave Batista would be the man. I think he can do anything. You can do drama, real emotion, humour, action…”

Regardless, DeKnight also revealed that if God of War was ever depicted onto the big screen, that it would only be done as an R-rated movie. In fact, DeKnight also confirmed that Sony agreed that an R-rating would be crucial. He revealed, “When I sat down with the Sony PlayStation people, one of the first things we both said is R-rated.” #

Production for a God of War movie isn’t in the works right now, and DeKnight added that he is unaware if a God of War movie is ever going to happen. He added, “I have no idea if that’s going to happen. I’m not in any kind of conversations right now, but hopefully, somebody will make a movie out of that franchise. I think it’s a phenomenal franchise.”
