Playstation has tried so hard to bring the MCU into the gaming world for the people. With rumors of Hugh Jackman reprising the animated role of Wolverine in the upcoming game, an insider revealed Insomniac Games’ dislike for the MCU.
While talking about the upcoming Wolverine game, Jeff Grubb reported that the game aims to be as far away from Hugh Jackman as possible. The reports revealed further that Insomniac Studios want their game as a standalone experience completely unrelated to the MCU.
The Wolverine Game Will Be Far Away From Hugh Jackman’s Claws
Talking about the status of games based on comics, the record hasn’t been great so far. Except for Insomniac’s Spider-Man franchise and WB’s Injustice franchise, superhero games have been biting the dust for a long time.

While announcing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the studio also announced the release of a Wolverine-based video game. The project (rumored Wolverine) will not take place in the same universe as Spider-Man. Wanting it to be a standalone project, Insomniac aims to keep the image of Logan as far away as possible from Hugh Jackman and his portrayal on the big screen.
According to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, the author talked about what he thinks will be the new Wolverine game. Stating some insider details, here’s what Grubb had to say.
“[Insomniac] will avoid to have any sort of links or anything that sort of evokes the Fox movies. This thing’s going to stand on its own…Hard-R is what they’re going for. It’s one of the concepts that I’ve heard. I think one of the cool things about ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’ was, ‘Hey, the lightsabers slice the droids in half.’ And then the bad part was when you go up against Stormtroopers, it doesn’t do that. Now, I’m mostly okay with that. I think with ‘Wolverine’ though, put us into an environment where those claws are gonna work as claws.”
It seems that Wolverine will be using those Adamantium claws sometime soon for cutting bad guys. The game currently does not have a release date but the setting of the game has been guessed by Jeff Grubb. The game takes place before Wolverine joins the X-Men.

Although a release date has not been attached to the Wolverine game, rumors of a Fall 2024 release date are abundant on the internet. Talking about the setting of the game, Jeff Grubb revealed that a timeline before he met the X-Men could potentially be a good point to start.
“I was trying to nail down the setting. I’ve heard maybe– at least, it will start before he joins the X-Men, which also makes sense. It’s a Wolverine game. Maybe you don’t wanna put in a situation where it’s like, ‘Where is Cyclops?’ It’s like, ‘Well, this is before he knew any of those people.’ But I don’t know that for sure. That just sounds like how it’s gonna work.”
With Hugh Jackman also returning as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 alongside Ryan Reynolds, Insomniac will have a tough time keeping Jackman away. Deadpool 3 is slated for a release date of 8th November 2024 in theaters across the U.S. The Wolverine game is also rumored for a Fall 2024 release date.
