Star Trek: The Next Generation used to be a staple in the television industry in the late 80s and early 90s. Starring the likes of Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, and Brent Spiner among others, TNG went on for seven seasons, wowing audiences. Even after concluding in 1994, the show is still at a standing of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Brent Spiner, who primarily played Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation, was a fan favorite. While he also played a few other roles in the franchise, Data remains the one that fans still relate him to. He once spoke on his thoughts about whether the beloved show should get a reboot in the future. And given this is the era of reboots, with so many old shows and movies getting the treatment, it won’t be a surprise if fans get a newer version of TNG either.
Brent Spiner Thinks a Star Trek: TNG Reboot is Inevitable
A beloved show like TNG getting a reboot might be something fans have been hoping for a while. And with stars of the OG show like Patrick Stewart giving his blessings for a reboot, things might be taking shape behind closed doors for now. Even Brent Spiner had once revealed that he would love to see the show come back with a new cast. Saying he loved the recent movies, speaking of the Chris Pine trilogy, in an interview with SYFY WIRE, Spiner said:
I think that sooner or later, they’re going to do a reboot, a motion picture version of Next Generation, and cast some young guys in our parts.
Whether it is another show, or a movie with the characters coming back to screen with new faces, fans would be delighted to have a rebooted version of The Next Generation.
Patrick Stewart Wants a Big Screen Version of Jean-Luc Picard
After playing the Captain of the Enterprise for seven seasons in Star Trek: The Next Generation and then in another four movies, Patrick Stewart wants to make another big screen appearance. Although he was initially reluctant to do Picard, which ran for three successful seasons, Stewart would not mind doing another big screen take of his character. During the audience Q&A in the 2022 New York Comic Con Picard panel, a fan asked if Picard would be the last time the cast comes together. To this, Stewart said (via trekmovie.com) :
I know there are some Paramount+ people here and also from Paramount Pictures, we could still make a movie.
Brent Spiner also chimed in with:
As long as Paramount+ are here, I wouldn’t mind having my own series.
It would be a delight if the OG cast returns once more for another project. For now, fans can watch Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: The Next Generation, on Paramount+.
