Projections also suggest that the film is expected to become victorious in technical categories including Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound. The Los Angeles Times, Variety, and Goldderby have also made similar predictions for Oppenheimer’s success at the 96th Academy Awards.
If things go as expected, Oppenheimer could surpass last year’s biggest winner Everything Everywhere All at Once, which won seven Oscars at the award ceremony. The estimated eight Oscar wins would also rank the biographical thriller among the films with the most Academy Award wins.
In contrast, the Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starrer Barbie is expected to win at most two Oscars. Billie Eilish’s acclaimed ballad from the film, What Was I Made For, which has already recorded major wins including a Golden Globe and two Grammys, is expected to score an Oscar for the film, along with a potential win under Best Costume Design.
