Fans had been long awaiting to see the web-swinging superhero Spider-Man in the MCU before Tom Holland eventually made that happen in Captain America: Civil War. The actor has since starred in several movies and is now expected to return in Spider-Man 4. The movie has reportedly been under development and recent rumors related to Holland’s next MCU venture suggest that the upcoming film could merge the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Sony’s Spider-Verse.
However, it has also raised some concerns related to MCU’s Peter Parker’s journey ahead of No Way Home, as fans were expecting to see Holland as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, as in comics and earlier adaptations of the superhero.
Spider-Man 4 Rumored to Merge the MCU And Sony’s Spider-Verse
Amid several rumors surrounding the upcoming phases of the MCU, Spider-Man 4 has now caused a fan frenzy as scooper Daniel Richtman revealed that the film could feature multiple connections to the Spider-Verse, potentially establishing a merger between the two universes.
Details surrounding the rumor are unclear. However, reports suggest that the movie could take Peter Parker on further multiversal adventures, with rumors of Michael Keaton’s Vulture’s return in the next film. The character was earlier stranded in the same universe as Morbius.
It seems to indicate that the movie might not feature the street-level superhero version of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, which fans have been anticipating to see in the MCU after Spider-Man: No Way Home. While the studio has not confirmed anything yet, fans have shared that same concern after the scoop was released.

The Speculative Merger of MCU And Spider-Verse Concerns Fans
Peter Parker has always been a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The MCU’s Spider-Man, however, was quite different from how the superhero has been portrayed in earlier adaptations and comic books. The character had been under the guidance of Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, and is highly eager to become a superhero like him.
However, following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans were finally expecting to see Holland taking on the role of the friendly neighborhood hero. The actor is reportedly set to star in the next Spider-Man trilogy, which was expected to feature his struggles and adventures as a street-level superhero in the MCU.
Cmon please just keep him street level

Fuck dude, I thought we would go street level, I hope they save it for mid/post credit scenes, and give us sinister 6 in movie 6

This was an inevitability, but for the love of god can’t we just have a single Spider-Man movie where it isn’t him in relation to other heroes, or multiverses characters; just Spider-Man in a Spider-Man story with Spider-Man characters in the mcu WITHOUT anyone else. Please

I highly doubt that. What would’ve been the point of venom leaving his symbiote behind just to later merge there? Not to mention Spiderman 4 is a street level type film. So how would a merge even occur?

I just want a more grounded Spider-Man movie before this happens. Like Tobey’s and Andrew’s were. Tom’s, as well as the spider verse films, are littered with all these connections. Just give us a grounded one!
Also, why merge them? Why not have Andrew be the main one in SSU???

Sony learned all the wrong lessons again

However, with recent rumors suggesting that there might be more multiversal adventures for the superhero, fans have shared their disappointment. One fan took to X (Twitter), saying, “Please just keep him street level.” Fans are demanding the studio focus on a more “grounded” story of the web-swinging superhero before they take him on another multiversal adventure with The Avengers and other superheroes.
Spider-Man 4 is expected to release in 2025.
