Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse: Is There A Post-Credit Scene?

Featured Video

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is the most recent movie to tackle the concept of the multiverse. It’s becoming an increasingly common plot-point in recent years, but arguably no comic book movie has done it better than Into The Spider-Verse; until the sequel, that is. At the time of this writing, Across The Spider-Verse has an impressive 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s great for any movie, let alone a sequel.

Comic book movies are known for having tropes that they tend to follow. Much like horror-films have “final-girls,” comic book films have post-credit scenes. They’ve come to be expected, and that means sitting through a slew of credits in anticipation for a glimpse or hint at what’s to come in the future of the franchise. But be forewarned, if you don’t want to know if there is a post-credit scene, or don’t want to know what that post-credit scene may include, don’t read any further. Spoilers ahead.

So you want to save some time, and cut out of the theater the second the credits start rolling, but you’re not sure if there’s a post-credit scene? It’s a dilemma we face nearly every time we go to the cinemas these days. The trend has been largely enforced by comic book movies after 2008’s Iron Man delivered an absolute bombshell of a post-credit scene introducing the idea of an Avengers’ team and essentially launching the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But what about Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse? Is there a post credit scene for this one? In short… no. There is not. But that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing after the credits roll.

Instead of a post-credit scene, we get some additional text reading “Miles Morales Will Return In Beyond The Spider-Verse.” This is interesting because this confirms the title of the third film, which had previously been referred to as Across The Spider-Verse Part 2

Why Is There No Post-Credit Scene?

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is unique in the fact that it is a two-part story. Connected stories aren’t anything new in the comic book world, and films often end with a nod or hint at what’s to come. But this film is in many ways, an incomplete story. It ends without wrapping up its arc with a “To Be Continued.” This isn’t a very common technique for mainstream films and is a bit of a risky move.

However, with this being a two part film, there isn’t much need to provide a post-credit scene eluding to what’s to come, because the film ends on a cliff-hanger moment, right in the middle of a climactic and important moment. So, we as the audience already know what is to come from the next film, assuming it will pick up right where this one left off.

How do you feel about the lack of a post-credit scene? Are you on-board with the two-part, cliff-hanger ending?
