While Spider-Man: No Way Home saw the bringing back of numerous fan-favorite characters from the previous Spider-Man films, it also almost starred one major actress whose appearance could have changed almost everything for Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker: Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. And now, the tremendous actress is on her way to bag another Academy Award for Best Actress (hopefully).

Though Emma Stone may have missed the chance to appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home (more on that later), she most certainly isn’t missing her chance to bag another Academy Award. At least that’s what the racetrack odds for the Oscar for Best Actress read currently.

As per the predictions of thousands of Gold Derby users–which includes expert journalists as well–The Amazing Spider-Man actress is currently leading the race with 4830 predictions for her getting nominated and 2527 predictions for her winning the accolade, all thanks to her spectacular performance in her upcoming movie Poor Things, which premiered at the festivals earlier this fall.

In the film, Stone plays Bella Baxter, a young woman who embarks on the journey from a prism of complete and utter madness to self-discovery during her whirlwind adventures across the continents, after she is brought back to life by an unorthodox scientist.

It is worth noting that the Cruella actress has previously bagged an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her spectacular performance in the musical, La La Land, along with getting two other nods for the accolade for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for The Favorite and Birdman.

So far, Emma Stone‘s position in the race for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Oscars 2024 is backed by 11 experts, however, that is less than half of all the experts making the predictions. But regardless of the pros and cons of making her lead and pulling her back as well as the fierce competition she is facing in the list, so far, her numbers are looking good, and that’s what matters.

Back when the script for Spider-Man: No Way Home was still in development, there was a point where Emma Stone could have starred in the film as Gwen Stacy, which could have changed a lot, if not everything, for Andrew Garfield‘s Peter Parker.

However, this idea was later crossed out because of the already overstuffedness of the movie. As per MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios:

“[Erik] Sommers and [Chris] McKenna at various points wrote versions of the story that incorporated Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy, Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson, and Sally Field’s Aunt May, but ultimately cut all those women when they decided that the story was already overstuffed; the only female characters with significant screen time would be Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May and Zendaya’s MJ.”

Thus was the script locked down to the final main characters, and regardless, it proved to be a massive hit for both Sony as well as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As for her next masterpiece: Emma Stone’s Poor Things is set to hit the theatres on the 8th of December, 2023.
