Tom Holland Pitched The Fascinating James Bond Movie Idea To Sony
Tom Holland is one of the most famous names in Hollywood. The actor is best known for his epic role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero films. Holland has become a household and has successfully established his career as one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood.
The controversy over who will take over after iconic James Bond franchise superstar Daniel Craig as 007 has been causing quite a stir online recently. While enough A-list stars, including Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, and Sam Heughan, have expressed their interest in playing the character of a British secret agent. Surprisingly, Tom Holland once pitched a fresh idea for a James Bond tale to the distributor of his Spider-Man film Sony.
Last year on his appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the Far From Home star opened up about his intrigued James Bond film pitch. Holland claimed that his clever idea was to create suspense among the audience by hiding from them that it was a James Bond movie. The actor shared,
“It didn’t work out quite as planned. Essentially, I’m such a big fan of James Bond. I’ve loved Daniel Craig’s movies. And I just thought: If they were to move on it would be really exciting to see how James Bond becomes James Bond.”
“So, I pitched this idea for a movie, which is kind of a stupid idea. Essentially you wouldn’t tell the audience that it was a James Bond movie until the end, but from a marketing point of view, that’s a nightmare. Like that just doesn’t make any sense.”
In his interview with LA Times, Tom Holland recalls his pitch and said,
“He was supposed to just be a kid who was graduating into the SAS and goes on a mission, which is obviously exciting and adventurous. At the end of the film, he would be recruited into MI:6 and given the status of double-O and the title of James Bond. I thought it was really cool, but no one else, I guess, thought it was cool.”
According to reports, Holland’s James Bond movie pitch failed to get the green signal from the Sony Pictures bosses, but they used his idea later in a 2022 American action-adventure film, Uncharted. Holland played the character of Nathan Drake in the movie, and the film nearly grossed $401.7 million worldwide.
