The launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has been enjoying multiple forms of reception; from positive reviews to discussions around the game’s new storylines and mechanics. To add a little cherry on top, Google has been involved in this celebration, and there’s a little easter egg when you google ‘Chocobos’.
Upon doing so, you’ll be greeted by the basic info on Chocobos and their images, but the screen also starts to shake and welcomes a group of these flightless birds run across the screen. This little easter egg holds an important place in Final Fantasy’s series, as Chocobos have been habitants of the game’s universe since the early days.
Google’s easter egg for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a lovely callback
The easter egg doesn’t last too long, and once the Chocobos are done running across the screen, you’re left with either of two feelings. You’ll probably be surprised at the little gimmick, or remember all the times Chocobos were an important part of the games.
Ideally, these huge, chicken-like creatures sometimes appear as a threat but soon find themselves becoming a part of the story. In Final Fantasy 7, they can even be ridden across the vast open world, adding to the game’s rich experience.
There are several mentions of these creatures as well as spin-off stories and games. Many times, players from different platforms may even look at a picture of Chocobos and instantly recognize which franchise they come from. The little easter egg celebrates this and welcomes the new game into the series.
Chocobos are an indication of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s open-world
The 1997 game was originally remastered as a brand-new title for the PlayStation as Final Fantasy 7 Remake and eventually saw a sequel that continues the saga. However, there’s a part to this equation that wasn’t initially in the concepts for many games in the series.
Usually, Final Fantasy 7 follows a linear story with strong storytelling and a quirky personality. Every now and then, players could explore small areas that would give them a sense of the massive world they were in. With Rebirth, a non-linear aspect of the game has been explored, and mobility is a big part of it.
The experience revolves around sticking to the main storyline as well as following in with smaller quests. And, Chocobos are a part of it! While the riding may feel a bit clunky at first, the agile creatures take you wherever you need to go.
As players explore the realms of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, there’s a lot yet to be discovered and many stories to uncover. What are your thoughts on the new game and how Google got involved? Let us know in the comments below.
