A single event can determine a character’s legacy in the Marvel universe. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) did give actor Chris Pratt recognition for his portrayal of the lovable and clever Star-Lord. But even after five long years, the Everwood actor still can’t shake the memory of his unfortunate fight scene with Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War (2018).

What exactly happened? Peter Quill suffered a massive emotional breakdown after learning of Gamora’s death. Furious, Quill charged at Thanos, unintentionally letting him loose and defeating the group. Fans were shattered when, in Avengers: Infinity War, Star-Lord’s reckless actions ultimately resulted in the destruction of half the universe.

The Avengers suffered greatly as a result of Pratt’s flaw, which made the loss even more devastating. Because it is directly associated with his character, Marvel fans find it difficult to overlook this error.

Marvel Fans Have Still Not Forgiven Chris Pratt?

For fans, Chris Pratt‘s error is still very much at the forefront of their memories, even after five years have passed since the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

Thanos intended to achieve his goal of restoring balance to the universe by gathering the six infinity stones, even though his method was sinister. He wanted to kill 50 percent of the population to bring balance to the entire universe. To defeat Thanos (Josh Brolin), Earth’s heroes (Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange) joined forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy (Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Mantis, and Rocket Racoon).

After a struggle, the team managed to subdue the mad Titan with Doctor Strange’s magic and Mantis’ emphatic abilities. However, when Thanos informed the team that he killed Gamora, Star-Lord lost his cool and attacked Thanos, waking him up from Mantis and Doctor Strange’s grip. This single mistake cost the team and the universe half of their people.

Chris Pratt Admitted that Star-Lord Made a Mistake in Avengers: Infinity War

Chris Pratt acknowledged that in Avengers: Infinity War, Star-Lord made a grave error. During an interview with Digital Spy for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, he agreed with the majority of people who blame Star-Lord for the Avengers’ failure to stop Thanos in the $2.052 billion film. To quote him:

I think it’s totally true, and I personally feel the same as everyone else about Star-Lord. But I know things, ok? And I feel like audiences are gonna be blown away when this next film comes out.”

Pratt did not appear to be very interested in answering the question of whether the character would be redeemed in the future:

“Even if it’s not, it was worth it, because this is an experience for fans that truly never will be matched again in the history of cinema.”
