Batman: The Animated Series is the most recognizable part of the DCAU, followed closely by Justice League Unlimited. The show managed to cement characters like Kevin Conroy’s Batman and Mark Hamil’s The Joker as definitive versions of the characters in the minds of the viewers, something that still serves as a benchmark for the work that DC puts out with its animation.
With the DCAU set to be an inspiration for James Gunn’s upcoming DCU, it makes a lot of sense that fans are taking the time to rewatch these shows, which are now available on streaming services. Out of all the DC-shared universes created by the franchise, the DCAU has the distinction of having the most widespread influence in the world of superhero shows.
