The trailer for Star Wars: The Acolyte has finally dropped, and it once again whisks you away to a galaxy far away. Announced by Lucasfilm in 2020, it took the production four years to get off the ground, but it is finally here, and it looks good.
Like most Star Wars projects, The Acolyte has been the subject of many discussions and speculation over the years. One of the major topics was the period in which the show was set. The trailer offers an interesting peek into the lives of the Jedi, but the fandom is less than impressed, and the show has already hit a disappointing milestone.
The Acolyte will take you back to the era of the High Republic
Star Wars is one of the most beloved franchises of all time. A New Hope kicked off the series, which has since spawned several sequels and spinoffs, with each project expanding the rich lore that George Lucas created. The Acolyte is no different in this regard, and in fact, it will take the viewers to a period that has not been seen on television previously.
Leslye Headland took over the reins for the project, and the trailer dropped on March 20th. The show is set a hundred years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
The trailer starts off with a group of younglings at the Jedi temple tapping into the Force. It sets an ominous tone as a former padawan tries to attack a Jedi master, played by Carrie-Ann Moss.
Moreover, it is revealed that something has been killing Jedi masters, segueing into an unknown individual wielding a red lightsaber as the other Jedi gear up for a fight.
On the whole, the series has so far been on the side of hopeful, with the good guys defeating the dark side. While later projects tried to show the more broken and humane side of the heroes, Headland’s will be slightly different.
Headland revealed that she took a great risk to tell the story from different perspectives. “We were obviously influenced by samurai films and wuxia films, but also films like Rashomon, where you see one story and then you see it done a different way,” she said (via The Hollywood Reporter).
It seems that Headland has stayed true to her word. The show will likely show the rise of the Sith towards the tail end of the High Republic Era. Unfortunately, not many are too happy about it.

The Star Wars fandom has gained an ill reputation, and it is starting to set a dangerous precedent. The fandom has always been extremely polarizing, with undercurrents of racism and misogyny, as seen with the sequels.
Headland’s show has also come under fire from fans, who think it might be too ‘woke.’ Since the trailer dropped, it has registered more dislikes than likes on YouTube, and fans are starting to call out the fandom for it once more.
