Star Wars Jedi 3 Already Entering Development

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is still hot off the shelves from its late April launch, but Respawn Entertainment is wasting no time in readying itself for Star Wars Jedi 3. Already, Respawn is hiring for a Principal Game Writer for the next game. This is in addition to postings for senior VFX artists. With the time between the last two entries being four years, it is tough to make a solid prediction on how long it could be until we see the end of this trilogy.

It makes sense that Respawn would be ready to move on so quickly, though. Previously, Stig Asmussen, director on the games, stated that the series had always been planned as a trilogy, even before the first part of the series released. “I always wanted to see this as a trilogy,” he said. “How can we take Cal and the crew to new places beyond what we were doing in the first game?”

As a result of this long-term planning, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was already greenlit and in the early stages of development even before Jedi: Fallen Order was released. Making many fans nostalgic for a time when game development progressed much faster, Respawn managed to release the game within just three and a half years of its predecessor. Therefore, it is not impossible to imagine that Star Wars Jedi 3 could release by 2027, or possibly even sooner.

Star Wars Jedi 3 Will Have Many Peers

Star Wars games are booming, though. Ubisoft will be releasing a large open world title in the beloved science fantasy franchise next year, while Quantic Dream, Skydance New Media, and more are also working on their own titles. Meanwhile, Respawn alone has three Star Wars games in the works. One of which, of course, is Star Wars Jedi 3, while the other two include a yet-to-be-announced FPS title, and a strategy game developed in cooperation with Bitreactor, who has a collection of experienced developers from franchises such as XCOM, Civilization, Gears of War, and Elder Scrolls Online.

It will be interesting to see how many of Respawn’s Titanfall learnings will be incorporated into its FPS Star Wars game, and many fans will likely be happy to see Respawn get the chance to wrap up a trilogy after Titanfall 3 was canceled years ago, leaving many fans wanting more following the acclaimed Titanfall 2 campaign.
