Respawn has done incredible work with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, unfortunately, EA is also reducing the workforce which affected the production of several games and resulted in the cancelation of an FPS-inspired Star Wars title that is rumored to revolve around the Mandalorian. Though they are committed to the Jedi games and a third game is on the way while also working on their Marvel projects like Black Panther and Iron Man simultaneously.

There is no denying that the superhero genre has had some incredible hits and disappointing misses in this format. Insomniac Games had 3 successful Spider-Man titles and has more to offer with Marvel’s Wolverine, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix dropped the ball with Marvel’s Avengers but redeemed themselves with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy from Eidos-Montréal.

Iron Man Outshines The Mandalorian

Marvel’s Iron Man is a third-person, action-adventure, and is promised to be a true Marvel experience.

Both Marvel and Star Wars are owned by Disney while they focus on developing them into feature films, leaving a window of opportunity for gaming studios to adapt them. Despite being popular, it seems like EA is leaning more towards the Marvel IP rather than branching out the Star Wars brand on gaming.

While fans are upset with these unfortunate events, EA has assessed the situation but had to make the tough call of laying off 5% of their total workforce as part of their reorganization efforts. Perhaps they figured the Marvel IP is a much more feasible venture than Star Wars, riding off the success and fame of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will attract fans to their adaptation.

The first Jedi game was a proof of concept that ended up as a tremendous success, an indication that not everything has to be competitive gaming or multiplayer influenced, fans want a linear story that has a compelling narrative. EA plans to provide more support for their original titles like Apex Legends and ongoing series like the Star Wars Jedi games which leaves no room for starting other entries but games being made in collaboration with Marvel was an exception.

From Comics to Live-Action and now Gaming, Marvel is Dethroning Star Wars Everywhere

The Mandalorian had the makings of a great game.

Shifting resources is a necessity in this business, fans may disagree with this move but perhaps it was for the best. EA and their studios are dedicated to giving a large variety of games to the community from both a single-player experience to multiplayer games. The stars didn’t just align for The Mandalorian but it did for Iron Man.

The similarities between the two IPs are impeccable, both wear suits of armor and are handled by director Jon Favreau. While Iron Man takes his leave from movies, maybe he can thrive in video games leaving Mando an open slot for movies with the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu film.
