Less than 10 days away from its official release, Star Wars Outlaws doesn’t seem to be the game many fans were hoping for within this vast and popular universe.
It appears that in the latest gameplay reveals, the quality of the title left much to be desired from the players’ perspective, and it seems Ubisoft might not achieve the sales it is hoping for. During Gamescom 2024, the official launch trailer for this game was presented, but fan reactions in the comments don’t seem very positive about what they saw.
Could Star Wars Outlaws Be Another Failure for Ubisoft?
After having held a rather long exclusivity in terms of developing games around this great franchise, which now belongs to Disney, the IP finally opened up to be developed by other studios.
One of the chosen development teams was Ubisoft, which took the opportunity to create an entirely original story with a new character, all of which will be part of the expansive narrative Star Wars Outlaws aims to present.
Initially, it seemed like this game had captured attention due to its vast open world and impressive graphical quality. However, it appears that the latest gameplay videos have led fans to lose interest.
Now, just 8 days before its release, fans are responding negatively to the launch trailer. The players will have to see if the studio can change the perspective about this title regarding gameplay.
Does This Franchise Need a Long Break?
Some ideas in this game are quite original; the protagonist will be able to ally with different criminal clans to gain benefits and access various planets to complete missions.
In theory, everything Star Wars Outlaws offers seems quite interesting, but after the gameplay videos, which appear clunky and not very well executed, the hype has significantly diminished. The game’s sales could be in jeopardy.
The game’s protagonist will be Kay Vess, who, along with her alien companion Nix, must be as stealthy as possible to infiltrate and escape unscathed from all the bases they enter.
Most of the combat mechanics are designed for this creature to assist in combat. Additionally, the studio promised that accessing each planet would not require another loading screen, but the videos show otherwise.
The majority of comments about this new work, which is based on George Lucas’s universe, indicate that fans have low expectations and are willing to give it a chance.
Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 30 for Xbox Series S/X, PS5, and PC via the Epic Games Store. Fans are waiting to see if this will be one of the year’s disappointments or one of its surprises. The open world aspect looks great.
