Star Wars Restored Kevin Feige’s Faith in the Iron Man Film

Kevin Feige, the CEO of Marvel Studios, has said that the success of a Star Wars movie restored his faith in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and helped him to take a risk with Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man. He explained in the soon-to-be-launched The Art of Iron Man book that he found a book, The Making of Star Wars, about the Star Wars movie, written years before it had become a success.

The book had much crucial information and behind-the-scenes references. Feige was inspired by the leap of faith the franchise took and it was the turning point for his franchise as he also did the same. He said,

“It documented interviews and photos done behind the scenes long before the film was ever a hit. When all seemed to be going very wrong. But it didn’t. It went quite well, most would say, when all was said and done. Reading this book gave me the one thing most required for the making of a successful movie and life, for that matter. Faith.”

Prior to this, Kevin Feige was in quite a hassle as he thought that introducing a new genre into the Hollywood mainstream would not have such a positive effect. Especially when all the things regarding the movie were going astray. Feige was worried that the franchise would fall even before reaching its prime as many things about the Iron Man movie were unsettling. He said,

“There was a moment in post-production when everything seemed very tenuous and bleak. We hadn’t settled into a satisfying cut, and the effects weren’t yet landing right. It is an awful period in the process when, after years of hard work, you are struck with the lingering fear that, in spite of unflagging dedication and meticulous planning, the whole thing might go pear-shaped”

Nevertheless, the gamble paid off handsomely as Iron Man was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to launch the MCU into the mainstream. MCU has since become the highest-grossing film franchise of all time, and it has spawned several successful television shows and video games. Feige is surely grateful to Star Wars for restoring his faith in Iron Man and the MCU
