The Acolyte is yet to premiere on the small screen, but early reviewers raved about the dark and gritty storyline, hyping up fans who are anticipating its release on the streaming platform.

The Acolyte Showrunner Reveals Plans For The Series

Speaking with Collider, series creator Leslye Headland revealed she wants to helm at least three seasons for Star Wars: The Acolyte. Her enthusiasm was also quite evident in her statement.

This is my dream job. I’m saying three [seasons] because I’m hoping they’ll allow me to do that, but if I could snap my fingers, it would just be, this is my job until I retire. I actually can’t think of a higher creative or career peak than working on Star Wars. So, I really am good. I don’t really need to do anything else.

The showrunner’s ambitious plan for the series is brought about by her fascination with Star Wars. Indeed, she sees herself working on the famed franchise for a long time. Actress Amandla Stenberg also reacted to Headland’s response:

I would be so chill with it. I also refer to it often, on the assumption that we’ll be able to continue for as long as we want to, as Star Wars University to all of my friends and family. When I was making this choice, I was like, ‘I think I’m going to go to Star Wars University.’

The thing about renewing shows for several seasons is that longer storylines do not always mean better. The studio will be taking a huge risk for something they could have wrapped up early on.

The Acolyte would need to have a strong grip on its plot and be able to sustain positive reactions from fans in order to succeed. Otherwise, it will just end up becoming like The Mandalorian which diminished in quality as it went on.

Pedro Pascal Has No Idea How Many Seasons The Mandalorian Will Have

Pedro Pascal previously responded to the question of how many seasons he sees The Mandalorian will have. He told Entertainment Tonight:

No idea, I have no idea. Because I think that quality is always gonna override quantity. So as long as it’s staying at this incredible standard to which it is at, it’s more a matter of that than anything else.

The problem with The Mandalorian is that fans felt it has sacrificed the quality of the show by extending the story for too long. Based on the 51% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the series is no longer entertaining viewers. The first season received an impressive 92% rating in contrast.

At the moment, Jon Favreau is working on an upcoming film called The Mandalorian & Grogu. It is still unclear whether Season 4 will happen, so stay tuned for more Star Wars updates!
