During the Twitch stream that had Pete Hines answering multiple questions from fans about Starfield, there was an abundance of things asked. However, one question caught the attention of Hines as a viewer asked whether Starfield will have a level cap or not. He replied: “I don’t believe we have a level cap” which has caused a lot of fans to get quite excited as they prepare to have a never-ending climb through Starfield’s levels.

This may not be the case, however, as Pete Hines also stated, “I mean, I don’t think we have one, but no one’s hit it,” which is referencing the fact that there are currently staff members at Bethesda and Xbox who are trialling Starfield and so far they haven’t reached any kind of level cap. There could be one that no one has  hit yet, as it could be so high it would take a long time grinding to get that far in the game’s levels to reach the cap.

Why Is It Such a Big Deal to Not Have a Level Cap in Starfield?

Throughout Bethesda’s other games like Skyrim, there have not been traditional level caps. However, there have been times when a player will hit a cap in the skills that they can buy through leveling, which makes it so leveling up your character became useless. After all of the skills that are available become unlocked, then essentially a level cap exists.

This has many fans of Starfield worried there may not be a level cap, but there could be a version of a level cap as players will eventually hit the maximum amount of skills they can acquire through leveling. This will then make exploring and leveling pointless as there won’t be any reason to do anything other than the main story, unless the player sets themselves goals to explore the entire universe set before them. But for now, this isn’t going to impact many players as current testers haven’t hit the level cap after numerous hours. It is unlikely regular players will be able to hit the level cap for a long time.

What do you think about the lack of a level cap in Starfield? Will this create a reason for you to play the game, or will it take away a reason for you to explore the game’s vast set of worlds? Let us know in the comments what you think!
