A new report suggests that it might not be limited to only these games, and even Bethesda’s Starfield as well as upcoming titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle could also be released for PS5 a few months after it hits Series X/S.
There have been rumors for a while that Microsoft is planning to change its strategy regarding first-party titles and bring Xbox-exclusive titles like Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush and Rare’s Sea of Thieves to other platforms such as PlayStation and Nintendo, and this news only adds fuel to it.
Xbox Is Reportedly Planning to Bring Starfield and Indiana Jones to the PlayStation 5
As reported by XboxEra, Microsoft is planning to release Starfield for PlayStation 5 sometime after the first expansion for the game titled “Shattered Space” hits its console and PC. Although the Shattered Space expansion doesn’t have a release date yet, it’s expected to be released sometime this year.
It has also been reported that Microsoft has spent extra money on PS5 dev kits to support the development of the game for its competitor console. This news come a few months after the game was released for Xbox and PC, and it was said to be “exclusive” when announced. Moreover, the game was also review bombed as it was an exclusive and didn’t come to PlayStation, and it seems like Microsoft is now thinking about catering to the PlayStation players.
However, it’s a massive change in Microsoft’s strategy, and it’s also claimed that senior management at the company has debated this decision of taking exclusives to competitor consoles, but it has not come to any fruition.
It has also been claimed that the release of the action-adventure title Hi-Fi Rush is planned for Q1 2024, and Microsoft could announce this later this month. As reported by The Verge, there are also chances that the recently announced Indiana Jones game could also land on PlayStation 5 and Switch sometime after its launch.
The game was announced as an exclusive and would have only come to PC and Xbox, but the plans seem to have changed now, and it would only be exclusive for a short time. According to the reports, the game is seemingly planned to launch for Xbox and PC in December 2024, be exclusive for a few months, and then launch for Switch and PlayStation 5. However, specifics for the release are not planned as of now.
Although these rumors have not been confirmed by Microsoft as of yet, the company has also not refuted such claims, which suggests that they might be true after all. It cannot be said as of now how such changes will be taken by its player base.
However, it would not be far-fetched to say that players who have been with Microsoft for years, even after it has been left behind by Sony by a big margin, the failure of projects from the company and now this change might not sit well with the players and could heavily backfire on Microsoft despite its intentions, good or bad.
