Starfield has received mixed reviews from both fans and critics since its release earlier this month. Many complaints have centred around its overall performance, particularly on Nvidia graphics cards, which have shown significantly lower performance than their AMD counterparts.

However, Nvidia has announced a new update that has shown promising improvements in testing. It is hoped that this update will enhance the overall experience of fans using the 30 and 40 series graphics cards.

Technology specialists at Digital Foundry found that the performance of the game was worse on Nvidia and Intel GPUs than on AMD GPUs. The new over-the-air update for Nvidia graphics cards will work with all 30 and 40 series cards as long as they have either drivers 537.17 or above installed.

Early testing has shown that the new update improves performance within the game by at least 5% and the “resize bar” also adds a new feature in the one-tap optimizations’ settings. These fixes allow the game to automatically be set up in the best possible way to run smoothly on the user’s hardware.

The performance issues for Starfield on Nvidia GPUs have been present since the pre-order launch, as it was announced that there would be no support for Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) which is Nvidia’s Supersampling technique. The game did however have support for AMD’s super sampling tech FidelityFX Super resolution on launch.

Many gamers have complained to Bethesda about the lack of support for Nvidia, claiming of a deal between the developer and AMD to make the company’s graphics cards the “exclusive” partner of Starfield.

Although there is a Starfield and AMD graphics card collaboration the “exclusivity” claim has been dismissed by AMD with them stating that they have no concerns with the development team of Starfield allowing support for DLSS as a super sampler.

Since launch, the lack of DLSS has been solved due to some dedicated community members creating mods to enable support for Nvidia Sampling in the game. However, this mod has not been without its own controversy with Modder PureDark limiting access to the DLSS support with a $5 month Patreon paywall.

With the Nvidia update imminent, fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they will be able to run the game at the best possible performance. Although 5% seems like only a small improvement it can make a huge difference to the experience within the game.

However, could this be too little too late for Bethesda? Have you been playing Starfield despite it’s issues? Do you think that this new update will fix player problems? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
