Some Starfield Planets Still Fail at Being Anywhere Near Believable, and Immersion is Hard to Come By

Starfield’s planets can be beautiful, but some aspects just don’t make much sense!

SUMMARY

  • Planets in Starfield often feature their residents locked in combat that has been going on before the player interferes.
  • One player has found this to be odd, as it does not line up with how ecosystems work in real life.
  • They claim this aspect of the game breaks the immersion, reducing the effect of the experience.

When first revealed, Bethesda claimed Starfield would be an immersive and enthralling experience, allowing players to conquer the stars and view a universe like never before. However, once the game was made available, everyone saw that those promises were more hype than reality.

That’s not to say the game is devoid of intrigue or interesting events, but more so that the content doesn’t feel like it’s been carefully considered. One player has pointed this out with an example that makes sense even in the real world.

Starfield Players Bring Up Lack of Immersion as a Complaint

Game studios have started to go above and beyond when it comes to enhancing the immersive experience. Creating worlds that capture and hold the player’s attention is not an easy task, and it seems some of those cut corners are shown in Starfield’s presentation.

Thoughts on Planet Biomes where two aliens are just fighting World War III?

Reddit user jeffdeleon has been exploring the many planets on offer in the game and has come away not very impressed. They posed the question to the community on the game’s subreddit if others are also a little puzzled by certain biomes.

They bring up the example of the warring giant scorpion species on Oborum 1. The constant conflict paired with the lack of prey species makes the biome feel disorganized on a designing level.

This breaks the immersion, a complaint that players have levied against Starfield in the past as well. While one response does offer the OP a solution to their question, it does not answer why Bethesda didn’t think these situations through.

Others have offered their suggestions on how the player can rationalize these conflicts by way of real-life examples.

But the OP says they have tried this and still fail to see how such a scenario could play out for years.

Immersion in Starfield is an important criterion, and one that Bethesda should strive to deliver. However, with so many biomes already in place, it might not be easy to go back and change everything.

New Starfield Content Should Aim to Be More Immersive

While it may be difficult to tweak current content, the new DLC slated for the game should ideally include some immersive elements to make it interesting. Rumors suggest Shattered Space will launch on August 20, but that is not the only bit of new content coming to Bethesda’s most recent release.

The same rumor states a new, massive adventure for the game is slated for launch next year and is titled “Starborn.” A new trademark was registered by Bethesda with the same name, indicating that Shattered Space is not the only additional content planned for the game.

Bethesda has quite a bit of work to put into the game if it is to match the hype that it was designated for at launch. While Shattered Space and the rumored Starborn could introduce entirely new mechanics, it also needs to take into account that players are looking for quality in content too.
