Stellar Blade has piqued the interest of the gaming community, which is already asking whether there’ll be a sequel or not. Director Hyung-Tae Kim gave a vague answer that raised eyebrows but did express an interest in expanding the lore.

For example, there’s the story about mothers who fear the new humanity, their existence and what they pursue, all these things. In terms of things to talk about and stories to tell, we are definitely interested in expanding and exploring these themes further in future projects, whatever form they might take.
It would be surprising if the developers chose not to pursue the potential of this franchise and shape it into something greater. The mothers were hinted, and Shift Up could work on a DLC that will focus on that storyline.
The studio didn’t directly deny a sequel, but it’s looking for other ways to grow; perhaps comic book tie-ins or a feature film are on the table. The developers are teasing an announcement in the following days, which could be related to their vague responses.
Expect to See More Stellar Blade Content in the Future
The game achieved impressive accolades, and for good reason. Not even the director anticipated the game to be as well received as it is today and earn the highest user score on Metacritic, which is a rare sight to see.
There is potential to develop the narrative of this franchise into something much larger, and the developers are taking their time to get it right and consider all their options. Expansions, spinoff titles, and sequels are all probable, but Kim might have something else in mind.
Whatever it holds, Kim is already planning out the future of the franchise and knows how to appeal to the audience. The developers prioritized the combat over the narrative, which was evidence enough.
