Stellar Blade is the latest exclusive available on the PlayStation 5 from South Korean video game developer Shift Up. The futuristic setting of the action-adventure game has piqued the interest of fans of the genre, and director Hyung-Tae Kim is proud of how women are represented in his project.

Opinions are based on what a person sees, and it could potentially offend their ideals, especially with how a certain demographic is represented and portrayed in a very popular medium like gaming. Eve is the main protagonist in Stellar Blade, and her appearance can be quite daring but also powerful.

Hyung-Tae Kim is a very creative director who also thinks like a businessman; he intentionally designed the character in a way that will evoke specific reactions.

Stellar Blade Director Justifies His Bold Creative Choices

Stellar Blade was originally known as Project Eve and Shift Up began to work on the game for the last generation.

Director Hyung-Tae Kim had the chance to sit down and talk about his newest project in a recent interview. The character design was among the few things that caught the eyes and attention of players because it was all intentional. This may upset parents and other people who are offended by how the South Korean director injected his game with the ideal characteristics of a woman.

I believe that careful use of fetishistic elements in costumes can have a very positive effect.

Channeling all the fetishistic elements to good use, like building anticipation and hype, is an ingenious move but also a controversial one. In hindsight, it can also be viewed as a way to praise the hard work and commitment that the development team of Shift Up did to perfectly capture all the necessary animations and effects for a more immersive gaming experience.

The appearance of Eve may cause some fear and be a reason for parents to better guide their children while playing the game, but it can also be seen as a celebration of the human body. Physical appearances can cause a lot of insecurities as well as confidence; perhaps Hyung-Tae is trying to appeal to more than one side of the controversy.

The Futuristic and Realistic Look of Stellar Blade Is a Win for PlayStation

If Kim Hyung-Tae wanted a way to better market and sell his game, he is doing more than the bare minimum. It wasn’t long ago when PlayStation accidentally released a playable demo of the game only to be removed after a few minutes. It greatly resembled the PT fiasco of the last generation.

Neither Sony nor Shift Up gave a statement or commented about the mishap, but one could only assume it was an accident or someone from the inside got a little excited.

His work speaks for itself; fans who are more attuned to this genre of story or genre can expect how visually revealing the characters are designed. Hyung-Tae does not deny the fact that Eve’s appearance was meant to drive sales, but in retrospect, many other games have done the same, and somehow the character’s looks are the least of their worries.
