Samuel L Jackson may be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Nick Fury, but it hasn’t stopped Stephen Lang from expressing his interest in playing the character. Or a version of him.

The Avatar actor recently told Screen Rant that he would love to play Nick Fury, but not the S.H.I.E.L.D director that already exists and we know in the MCU. Instead, Lang would be interested in playing the original Howling Commandos leader. Quoting that his all time favorite Marvel comic book series was Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos.

Lang said “I friggin loved Sgt. Fury’s Howling Commandos and to me it was always like, I want to be Nick Fury”.

While it’s interesting for there to be two Nick Furys in the MCU. It might still be a bit far fetched, although there are two different versions of in the comics right now. One introduced which is the son of the original nick fury known as “Nick Fury Jr” who was inspired by Jacksons Fury. It could open doors for the possibility of a Nick Fury Sr & Nick Fury Jr.

The Howling Commandos were also introduced in Captain America: The First Avenger and were apart of Agent Carter where they played important roles in both. It would be interesting to see a Howling Commandos movie that has The Original Sgt. Nick Fury leading the team.

For now though there are no plans for anything of this sort and instead Nick Fury will be appearing in Captain Marvel which opens on March 8, 2019.
