Steve Carell May Have Saved The Office as it Was Almost Canceled "Two, three, four, 10, 12 times": "We were struggling week to week"

Steve Carell found his ticket to stardom in one year. From The Office to 40-Year-Old Virgin, he has done roles that have offered him a unique range. His most significant and famous role is that of Michael Scott, a role that may have changed even more lives than the actor realized. Not only was Carell’s comedy on point but there were jokes he managed to deliver flawlessly that could otherwise be taken very differently.

In this, he also gave light to a world that is otherwise dark. For many people, The Office is a comfort series they can turn to in their time of need. A lot of it is possible because of Carell’s character and how he expresses Michael’s own mindset in the most harmless way possible.

The Office Was Almost Canceled Far Too Many Times

The Office has been a foundational series for all other sitcoms. If there is any other comedy show that comes into being, it might be compared to Steve Carell’s series for decades without end. However, every fan of the series knows that it was not an easy ride. The first season only consisted of 6 episodes and things were not looking good for them. According to Yahoo! Entertainment, Brian Baumgartner and Angela Kingsley, who play Kevin and Angela in the series opened up about The Office hanging by a thread.

“We were almost canceled two, three, four, 10, 12 times at the beginning.”

They revealed that the series was not getting the desired response and was almost canceled over ten times. Many, if not all the actors of the series were living paycheck to paycheck when The Office first started and did not know if the show would even continue after the episodes that would air in the coming weeks.

Steve Carell Basically Saved The Office

Had it not been for Steve Carell, The Office could have been canceled long before its potential was ever unleashed. 2005 saw the release of not only the hit series but also 40-Year-Old Virgin, the movie that gave Carell his big break. Once fans got to witness just how talented the actor was, they could not help but ask for more. According to Yahoo! Entertainment;

“After that episode aired, we were the number one streaming show on iTunes and all of a sudden, we were like, ‘Hold up. We found our audience,'” Kinsey added. “It turned a corner from there, and we were set.”

That want was later satisfied thanks to The Office. It became the perfect opportunity for fans to witness his creative and humorous side. Christmas Party became the episode that first highlighted the actor’s potential.
