Filmmaker Steven Spielberg has contributed to the entertainment industry in some of the most remarkable ways ever. By directing some of the finest works to ever exist in the field of science fiction and historical adventure dramas like the Indiana Jones film series Jurassic Park, he has established a legendary position for himself in Hollywood — widely acclaimed and thoroughly reputed.
But his extraordinary filmmaking skills aren’t the only thing that Steven Spielberg has contributed to the cinemas. In fact, if anything, he has made an unusual contribution by inspiring a Netflix horror show, which is also Quentin Tarantino’s all-time favorite series, to use his name for his character.
Steven Spielberg’s Unusual Contribution To This Superhit Horror Netflix Series
Steven Spielberg has given some of the finest performances for the big screen through his exceptional directing skills in his films ranging from sci-fi to historical adventure drama. But he has also contributed to one highly acclaimed horror series on Netflix: The Haunting of Hill House.
His contribution to the series is a rather unusual one, considering how it isn’t one given through his filmmaking skills. Instead, he contributed by inspiring showrunners through his name as one of the characters in the series, Steven Crain was named after Spielberg.
This basically had two major reasons: One, because Steven Spielberg initially produced The Haunting film back in 1999 with Amblin Entertainment production company. This same company co-produced Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House.
Two, because, according to the horror show maker Mike Flanagan in the director’s extended cut on DVD (via BuzzFeed),
“[Steven’s love for The Haunting of Hill House story was] one of the reasons I was brought in at all to pitch for it.”
Thus, without even knowing it, Steven Spielberg ended up contributing to one of the best horror series on Netflix!
Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House Is Quentin Tarantino’s All-Time Favorite Series
The Haunting of Hill House series on Netflix is actually loosely based on the 1959 novel by Shirley Jackson of the same name. It circles around the story of five adult siblings who experience some series of paranormal incidents at the Hill House mansion, with the plot alternating between two timelines: that of the present day, and flashbacks from 1992 when the family initially left the house.
While this paranormal series was widely acclaimed by fans worldwide with a stunning 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it seems that one major director from Hollywood enjoys watching the show as well. This filmmaker is none other than Quentin Tarantino.
This is what Tarantino said about the Netflix series in an interview with The Jerusalem Post:
“My favorite series, with no competition, is The Haunting of Hill House.”
Turns out, both of the good friends — Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino — have a good taste for horror/thriller content!
