Actor John Krasinski, who wrote, directed, and starred in 2018’s A Quiet Place, once revealed that a scene from director Steven Spielberg‘s 1993 film, Jurassic Park, was the primary inspiration behind A Quiet Place. In a 2018 interview with Empire, Krasinski revealed,

“I loved the idea of your second and third chance – meaning, if you did make a sound, you go into a whole other level of survival which is, ‘Now that I’ve made a sound, if I run I’m dead, if I stay still I may be dead’. The idea of the Jurassic Park kitchen scene – if you make a sound, you have to stay still and hope that they don’t get to you – that was always in my mind.”

Krasinski’s film explores the theme of survival in a world overrun by creatures who are blind but use their hearing abilities to hunt down human beings. Krasinski’s wife, Emily Blunt, also starred in the movie.

The iconic kitchen scene from Steven Spielberg’s movie, which served as an inspiration for Krasinski’s film, is when the two Murphy kids hide from two velociraptors who’ve gotten into the kitchen. Krasinksi really took Steven Spielberg’s small scene from Jurassic Park and stretched it into a long movie, giving fans the same thrilling experience they went through during that scene.

The movie was a massive success as it grossed roughly $341 million worldwide and received critical acclaim. Thanks to its success, a sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, was released in May 2021, with Krasinski returning as director and the main cast also returning with the addition of Cillian Murphy.

A spinoff, titled A Quiet Place: Day One, and a third installment, A Quiet Place Part III, are scheduled to be released on March 8, 2024, and 2025, respectively.
