When speaking of classics, the Spielberg and Hanks duo has given us in total of five movies with amazing collaboration of different genres. The War of the Worlds director is regarded as one of the best filmmakers of all time, while the Forrest Gump actor is a powerful performer. And when they came together, they produced something much more than to just remember.

Speaking of their five movies, the first would be Saving Private Ryan which also starred Matt Damon as Private Ryan himself. Then came a mixture of drama, comedy, and a cat and mouse chase, Catch Me if You Can, also starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie was released in 2002 and was a huge hit at the box office, roaring its success.

The Terminal was definitely a heartwarming comedy which is a true story based on the life of Mehran Karimi Nasseri. After almost a gap of 11 years, the reunion movie of the duo was Bridge of Spies which is also based on true events. The most recent one is The Post which was released in 2017 and talks about two investigative journalists uncovering the secret of the Vietnam War.

We are talking about Tom Hanks‘s best comedy movie in all of his career Big. The 1988 fantasy movie revolves around a 12-year-old boy who wishes to turn into a 30-year-old man and starts working at a toy factory in New York. There are his own adventures that have been written by Anne Spielberg. Yes, you read that right, the movie was written by the Jaws director’s sister and was also the reason he turned down the movie.

In an interview with FlavourMag, Spielberg talked openly about his decision

“I was offered Big and I turned it down because my sister Anne had written it. Jim Brooks and I had many meetings about this and he was very persuasive about my doing it.”

Further explaining the talk between him and his sister he said

“Here’s why I’m not doing it. I’m not doing it because you’ll get no credit for this great script you wrote. It will all go to me.”

The movie was eventually taken over by Penny Marshall and performed monstrously at the box office grossing $15 million. The sweet gesture of why Spielberg left the movie is incredible and a bold choice. If it were to happen the movie would be famed as a “Spielberg movie” and his sister Anne wouldn’t have gotten much credit.
