The verdict of the defamation trial of Johnny Depp against Amber Heard came in favor of the actor. The Aquaman actress is obviously upset that the judgment is not in her favor. She wrote a post on social media where she called the decision a “setback” for women who want to speak out against domestic abuse. On June 1, 2022, the jury shared their verdict with Judge Penny Azcarate and she read it. The jury decided that Amber Heard must pay $15 million to the actor over the damages. Also, Johnny Depp will pay her $2 million for calling her allegations a hoax.
Amber Heard is upset with the jury’s decision
After the verdict was shared, Amber Heard shared a statement sharing her disappointment. She wrote, “The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence was still not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.” She further added, “It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke up could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women should be taken seriously.”
She even talked in the context of her team winning the Sun’s libel case. She wrote, “I believe Johnny’s attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the U.K.” She even mentioned that she seems that she no longer has the freedom of speech in America.
Fans call out Amber Heard for the statement she wrote
Public opinion has always been in the favor of The Pirates of the Caribbean actor. His fans had started a movement on social media to bring him justice. Now with the verdict being in his favor, they celebrate. Some even called out Amber Heard for calling the verdict a “setback.” Check out some of the tweets below.
Women, DO NOT let Amber Heard (& her stans) convince you this verdict is a setback for women. Feminism is about equality, not superiority or dominance of another gender. If anything, this helped prove men can be victims of DV too. This should be her silver lining #DeppVsHeard

Amber Heard — who lied under oath and lied about being beaten by Johnny Depp — says in this statement that the verdict is a setback for other women…
No, it’s not. Just women who lie. #TruthWins pic.twitter.com/TUrFuFfiqU— Emily Miller (@emilymiller) June 1, 2022
Amber Heard called the ruling in favor of Depp a 'setback for women'. I believe the ruling is a step FORWARD if we truly want to tackle the problem of domestic violence. If anything was a setback for honest women victims, it was your pile of lies, Ms. Heard.

"This verdict is a setback for survivors of domestic abuse and violence."
How? The victim in this case, Johnny Depp, got justice against his abuser, Amber Heard. You should be celebrating this.
Unless, of course, you view this through the lens of "men = bad, women = victims".

Amber Heard said that her court loss is a setback for women. Yes, but brought to you by … Amber Heard. The jury didn't believe her at all and making allegations that lacked credibility hurts every woman who has abuse to report. She should be looking inward for responsibility.

Amber Heard didn’t lose because the justice system failed her. Amber Heard lost because she is the abuser. There is a mountain of evidence against her. And this verdict isn’t a setback for women. It is a wakeup call to stop believing someone based on their gender only. It is a 1/ pic.twitter.com/GjgyELX0wV
