Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming has addressed misconceptions about the actor’s condition following his diagnosis of Aphasia. Known for his exceptional performance in films like Die Hard and Unbreakable, the 68-year-old actor’s family announced his retirement in 2022 after he was diagnosed with aphasia. A year later, Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
However, the actor’s wife got seriously infuriated after witnessing claims of the Die Hard star having “no more joy” following his diagnosis and took to Instagram to set the record straight as she called out the unnamed outlet for making false claims.
Emma Heming Addressed the Rumors Surrounding Bruce Willis’ Condition
Bruce Willis‘ wife Emma Heming has shared that she was triggered upon reading the claims that there is “no more joy” in her husband. The model, who married Willis in 2009 and shares two daughters with the actor, shared that she got “clickbaited” with a headline about her family.
“The headline basically says there is no more joy in my husband,” she said before adding, “Now, I can just tell you, that is far from the truth.” Heming denied such claims as she called out the unnamed outlet for making “stupid headlines” and scaring people by spreading misconceptions about the neurocognitive disease. Emma Heming stated in her Instagram video,
“Stop scaring people to think that once they get a diagnosis of some kind of neurocognitive disease that ‘That’s it. It’s over. Let’s pack it up. Nothing else to see here, we’re done.’ No. It is the complete opposite of that, okay?”
Highlighting the emotional complexity of dealing with a neurocognitive disease diagnosis, the British model shared that although “there is grief and sadness,” it also presents an opportunity to embrace a fresh chapter filled with love, connection, joy, and happiness.
“That’s where we are,” she said of her family and Bruce Willis’ condition following his diagnosis, before once against calling out the false claims made by the outlet. She also highlighted the same in the caption of her video, as she urged to be “mindful” of the narratives surrounding dementia.
Emma Heming Advocates for Positive Outlook in Dementia Care
The British model also highlighted how such narratives surrounding neurocognitive disease can cause issues and unexpected challenges for the care partners in a second clip. Acknowledging that she understands how these “gossip mills” work, Heming emphasized that it is “harmful to the next care partner and the person diagnosed with dementia.”
She also highlighted that although being diagnosed with dementia is no “rainbows and unicorns,” the constant focus on its negative aspects would only make things complicated not only for the person diagnosed but also for the care partner.
“These headlines that paint this constant doom and gloom picture of dementia are harmful to them as they try to build their support unit around them,” Bruce Willis’ wife said before adding, “Or could sway a person who is wanting to help, the other way.”
Emma Heming and Bruce Willis met in 2007 and got married two years later in 2009. The couple has been together for 16 years and share two daughters, Mabel Ray Willis, and Evelyn Penn Willis.
