Netflix Original series and films are almost always brilliant pieces of work, but Stranger Things (2016-present) has proven to be better than most. The science fiction horror drama has had fans and critics glued to all four seasons with its gripping visuals and breathtaking storytelling. Set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, USA, the show features Hawkins’ residents as they try to deal with supernatural entities from another dimension, called the Upside Down, after a nearby research facility lets the latter loose upon Hawkins.

Harbour has graced the big screen with several memorable characters. Jim hopper is one of his more recent avatars, but the man has done it all, from playing the role of a brutal Santa Claus on Violent Night (2022) to that of a CIA agent on Quantum of Solace (2008).

In a recent interview with DiscussingFilm, Harbour stated that he felt like for Stranger Things, five seasons would be a good place to stop. The fifth season has been confirmed to be coming to Netflix by the powers that be, and Harbour feels that the show is poised brilliantly as it is, and the fifth season will help put it all together in a “bittersweet” ending.

“…I think it is time for it to end. But it is, of course, very bittersweet. You know, there’s a sadness there. But also, we’ve all grown up. It is time for us to leave that nest and try other things and different projects. And to let the Duffer Brothers try different things as well. I mean, those guys are so talented. I want to see what they come up with next. So it is bittersweet, but it’s definitely time.” said David Harbour.

What’s next for David Harbour?

Harbour is a busy man. He manages to play roles which are slightly off the beaten path and has found quite a few such roles come his way over the course of his career. The role of Chief Hopper elevated his career to a new level. Playing the dark role of a grotesque Santa in Violent Night and that of a ghost in his recent project We Have a Ghost (2023) have only added to the feathers in his cap.
