The Silent Hill 2 Remake is on the horizon as fans wait for an official release date. While many are still hoping for a Fall 2024 release window, the possibility of 2025 is still in the air.
The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) recently published the upcoming remake’s rating and it’s what you would expect from the series. Blood, violence, guns, and creatures like Pyramid Head are in the rating summary for Silent Hill 2 Remake. However, one sentence towards the latter half of the summary is tripping up the community.
The game contains some suggestive/sexual material: characters pole-dancing in strip-club settings.
Was this a mistake? Or are Bloober Team and Konami adding pole-dancing into Silent Hill 2 Remake?
Silent Hill 2 Remake ESRB Rating Suggests Sexual Themes
It’s common for games to get rated by the ESRB before they officially release. In the rating summary, it goes into more detail as to why the rating was given, and potential spoilers for the upcoming project.
In the Silent Hill 2 Remake summary, we now know characters will be impaled and another character will suffocate to death with a pillow. The ESRB does not specify who or when it will happen, but players will see that content if they reach those sections in the game.
What players did not expect was the inclusion of sexual themes, especially pole-dancing strip club settings. The original Silent Hill 2 is on the ESRB’s website for PS2 and PS3/Xbox 360 for Violence and Blood/Gore.
To add sexual themes for the remake does not make much sense. Specifically having a pole-dancing strip club setting because that’s far from what the Silent Hill franchise is known for. A survival horror series adding such themes is offbeat, to say the least.
Not Looking So Hot – Silent Hill 2 Remake
In addition to the strip club component, there will be posters of women in revealing outfits and suggestive dialogue in Silent Hill 2 Remake.
After the mixed reactions to the combat trailer, you would think Bloober Team and Konami would buckle down and give fans a faithful Silent Hill 2 Remake. Instead, the project seems to be straying more from the original.
There’s no denying the visual fidelity of Silent Hill 2 Remake is on par with other current generation titles. It is 100% an upgrade presentation-wise, but everything else in between has fans concerned of what’s to come.
From its focus on combat to the addition of sexual themes, Silent Hill 2 Remake is changing too much for little payoff. Maybe that portion of the rating summary is a mistake by the ESRB but it currently still lives on the website.
