A new anime adaptation of Berserk is something that fans have always wanted, and that is not something new. This is because the legendary manga by Kentaro Miura has never truly got what it deserved in the form of anime.

Although the 1997 anime adaptation of the story under the studio named OLM Team Iguchi, did the best they could with the available resources they had, however, the difficult journey of our main character, Guts, his quest for revenge, and his search for peace of mind, were something that has never been fully explored in the anime.

The frustration felt by the fans of Berserk over the lack of a proper anime adaptation of the manga reached a point where they are taking matters into their own hands.

Studio Eclypse Teases Berserk: The Black Swordsman Adaptation with New Artwork

In order to get the best out of the manga in the anime adaptation, an animation studio, Studio Eclypse, made up of fans themselves, teased a trailer in January 2024 of their own take on the first major arc of the Berserk manga, the Black Swordsman.

They are using a combination of professional animation artists as well as the latest AI technology to bring the manga to life, once again.

Recently, the official Twitter handle of Studio Eclypse revealed the brand new artwork for the upcoming Berserk: The Black Swordsman.

The artwork references some major elements from the Berserk series, just like the God Hand and the Crimson Behelit.

What is even more interesting about this reveal is the timing. On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse occurred, and any Berserk fan knows that eclipses hold a lot of importance in that world.

Griffith’s big rise to the God Hand and the destruction of the Band of the Hawk all happened during an eclipse.

It’s worth noticing that this latest key art reveal follows an April Fool’s joke the studio pulled off earlier, where they released a full trailer for their Berserk project. And that was something on the heels of some other Berserk-related artwork they put out last year.

That is the reason why fans are keeping a close eye on what this studio is up to, as the studio is putting a lot of effort and thought into adapting this legendary manga for sure.

Berserk: The Black Swordsman Trailer Is Set To Premiere at Otakufest

Otakufest also revealed that the trailer for Berserk: The Black Swordsman is going to premiere at their two-day event happening on May 18-19. In fact, the animator Ale and the director Axel are actually going to be in attendance.

In addition to this, they also revealed that they are not just debuting the trailer at the event, but they are also planning to post it online for all the Berserk fans all around the world who can not make it to the event.

As for the project itself, Berserk: The Black Swordsman aims to properly adapt the first major story arc from Kentaro Miura’s legendary Berserk manga series.

And if you’re not familiar with that particular arc, it follows the character of Guts, the Black Swordsman, a feared warrior whose flesh is marked by this unholy symbol called the Brand, which draws all kinds of dark forces to him.

You can watch Berserk on Crunchyroll.
