With his excellent skill and brilliant talent, Denis Villeneuve might have well created history if he isn’t already in the history books. Poised to have even left behind the likes of other science fiction movies like the Star Wars franchise, his Dune movies are being widely hailed as the best sci-fi tales in the conventional cinema landscape.

Yet the director seems to delay a potential Dune 3 movie and expressed that he has about 4 other projects lined up. He even stated that one of them is a secret project that led fans to speculate it might be an Avengers movie, yet his past comments about Marvel movies being cut and pasted seem to suggest otherwise.

Denis Villeneuve is a visionary director with a unique approach to storytelling. Witnessing his incredible ability to create stunning visuals has made him a favorite among movie enthusiasts. With movies like Dune, the director has earned high praise for bringing new life to classic science fiction stories and presenting them in an intriguing and thought-provoking manner.

The first installment of the Dune series was a critical and commercial success, and it seems Dune: Part Two is an even bigger and better sequel to the first movie. Having a 94% critic and 95% audience rating on sites like Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is a guaranteed success.

This brings us to the question of whether Villeneuve is working on a third part after he revealed the third movie will be his last (via Time) and the script of it is almost completed (see YouTube). However, the director, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, revealed that he has four other projects lined up,

“I physically need to recover for a couple of weeks [before picking up Dune 3]… I have four projects on the table, currently. One of them is a secret project that I cannot talk about right now, but that needs to see the light of day quite quickly. So it would be a good idea to do something in between projects, before tackling Dune Messiah…”

The mention of a secret project had fans buzzing, with many of them exclaiming that it might be a Marvel movie that he is working on (via X). Yet that seems highly unlikely given his past comments about the MCU.

Ever since the news of the Dune filmmaker reportedly working on a secret project went viral, fans have been curious about it. While Denis Villeneuve does not seem to be open to revealing what the project is about, fans have been busy cooking up their own theories, stating that it is either Avengers: Secret Wars or a Marvel movie like the Canadian superhero team Alpha Flight.

Despite having directed movies like Blade Runner 2049, Villeneuve directing a Marvel flick is not possible since he once called the movies out for being cut and pasted in an interview with El Mundo (translated, via The Direct).

“Perhaps the problem is that we are in front of too many Marvel movies that are nothing more than a ‘cut and paste’ of others. Perhaps these types of movies have turned us into zombies a bit … But big and expensive movies of great value there are many today. I don’t feel capable of being pessimistic at all.”

Even though it does not seem like a potential Marvel movie (unless Marvel has somehow won him over), it remains to be seen what Denis Villeneuve’s secret project is. But given his impressive track record, it’s safe to say that it will be something worth looking forward to.
