James Gunn is the next big thing in Hollywood. And there’s a renowned critic who supports this statement. Since Marvel Studios launched its Marvel Cinematic Universe, no other studio has come close to giving a tough competition to it.

But now, it looks like James Gunn’s DCEU will give direct competition to its opponent studio — because he’s now in charge of it as well as he is also working on some of the top-notch plans for the future that will definitely shape the future course of DCEU.

No doubt, Gunn has come a long way after helming the dark superhero comedy Super (2009) and then achieving his first major directorial success with Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).

Gunn has an impressive filmography history, including Warner Bros.’ The Suicide Squad, the Emmy-nominated HBO Max series The Peacemaker, cult classics like Slither, and so many more. His experience and creative vision make him the top choice to work with.

Even though James Gunn transitioned from filmmaking to being a studio executive, he still continues his active social media presence. He continuously interacts with fans and maintains transparency in his new role. Recently, a Gunn fan took to X and posted to appreciate Gunn:

“Since moving to LA, almost everyone I’ve spoken to has overwhelming optimism and enthusiasm for the future of DC because of James Gunn. Actors, writers, producers, everyone. DC fans are in for something special.”

But it looks like some people like @RizviAzaad don’t agree with this statement. As he wrote, no one is looking forward to it, and “people are put off DC now.” He also has “no hope in Gunn either.” The user “100 percent” confirms this. Look at his tweet below.

To back the first post and to support Gunn, KC Walsh, the Editor-in-Chief for the GWW, reposted:

“Lol, this is factually untrue, just look at the Superman casting or any interview where Gunn’s name is brought up

He is widely beloved in Hollywood, creatives like him, writer like him and actors love him

He is literally the guy everyone is trying to work with right now.”

Some positive reviews have been seen from fans supporting his post. However, Walsh isn’t wrong because the DC boss is also now working on some of the major projects in the new DCEU — which is why so many top-tier people are ready to work with him.

James Gunn’s future plans about DCU suggest a complete makeover

After James Gunn and Peter Safran were named as the new heads of the studio in October, they announced nearly a dozen projects for the DCEU’s new chapter, named “Gods and Monsters,” in a video shared on X this year in January:

“So as many of you know, DC has been disconnected in film and television for a long time. And it’s one of our jobs, mine and Peter’s, to come in and make sure the DCU is connected in film, television, gaming, and animation that the characters are consistent, played by the same actors and it works within one story.”
James Gunn stated that from now on, projects will be clearly labeled as either part of the DCEU or part of “DC Elseworlds” (exists outside the primary continuity). Among these projects, there’s a sequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman, scheduled for release on October 3, 2025. A sequel to Joker featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga is also expected next year.

The next wave of DCEU movie projects includes Superman: Legacy, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Swamp Thing.

The TV projects include – Creature Commandos, Waller, Booster Gold, Lanterns, and Paradise Lost. James Gunn emphasized the importance of the director’s and writers’ unique visions in these movies and TV series. This mentality is what makes him stand out in the industry.
