Fans of DC and Superman have something to looking forward to with one particular Steam title, and to make it an even sweeter deal, the game is free to play. Developed by Indie-us Games, Undefeated is a superhero experience that feels like it takes inspiration from Hancock.
That said, it will also appeal to many DC fans waiting for a Superman game, especially after seeing the superhero in action in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Undefeated was released back in 2019, when the original developers were still in college. Now, only five years later, they have teased a follow-up title available to be wishlisted on Steam.
Undefeated is the Perfect Unofficial Superman Game on Steam
Fans have been clamoring for a Superman game for years now, but a AAA title based on the DC superhero is yet to be properly made. Enter Undefeated, a game by three college students who decided to release a free-to-play title on Steam. Although it has been out for a few years, the prototype still gets updates and several bug fixes by the developer.
After receiving well over 6,200 reviews so far on Steam, the overall rating is “Very Positive“, and has been downloaded by more than 1.8 million gamers. The gameplay lasts just over 34 minutes and has bare-minimum controls.
The protagonist has no suit and wears a black shirt and pants, with black shades, flying around a city that’s overrun with alien bots. The visuals aren’t as grand as a AAA title, but in the little time the game lasts, it has given fans on Steam an entertaining experience.
The success has spawned a full-game, which will be published by a well-known indie publisher, Chorus Worldwide. There is no release date announced yet, but a working title was announced by the developers.
Undefeated: Genesis Will Be Set in the Same Universe
Back in September 2023, the developers announced an upcoming fully-produced title based on the same universe as Undefeated, with a lot of similar elements and gameplay. The developers even released a trailer for the title, showcasing several boss fights.
The superhero action game is said to be set in an open-world, in which the protagonist will fly around freely taking down bosses as players get to “experience the origins of the story which lead up to Undefeated.”
The game is set on the planet of Voltissia, where the protagonist gets teleported, gaining a wide variety of superpowers.
Apparently, the title was originally titled Unrestricted, but then to exist in the same universe, it was decided to go with Undefeated: Genesis. The developers have also mentioned there are further plans for the franchise after the upcoming prequel title.
It will now be interesting to see the reception the upcoming title receives, as its success will likely lead to future franchise plans bearing fruition. The partnership with Chorus Worldwide sounds promising, and the gameplay in the trailer looks much-improved compared to the initial prototype.
