Fable is one of the most popular Xbox series, and players have been waiting for the next game in the franchise. Fable reboot was announced back in 2020 with a brief cinematic teaser trailer, and another trailer was released at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2023, exciting all the fans.
The trailer showed the amazing fantasy world of Albion in the game and the iconic humor that the series is known for. It was also confirmed that British comedian and actor Richard Ayoade will be playing the antagonist. The trailer showed the lead character of the game, and the character design of the protagonist hasn’t gone down well with the fans.
Fans Are Not Going Easy on Fable Protagonist’s Character Design
When the trailer for the game was released, fans were happy to know that Fable was still around and they would again be able to explore the world of Albion. Fans appreciated the humor, the in-game world, the visuals, and other things, but what stood out the most to them was the character design of the protagonist, and they aren’t holding back on the criticism.
The trailer was spammed with dislikes due to this same reason upon release. Fans have been saying that the female character is unattractive and have also said that it is “woke.” An X/Twitter user and gaming YouTuber recently shared a picture of the protagonist and asked fans their “thoughts” on the character, and the majority of the responses have been negative.

Fans have said that the developers should have introduced the character as a man instead of a woman, with some saying that they would not play with this man. A fan said that the character looks like the “ugly step sister from Shrek,” while another added that the character has “Woke Sweet Baby Inc. Trash written all over it.”
Fans Want Character Customization in the Game
A recent rumor claimed that the Canadian narrative development and consultation studio Sweet Baby Inc. is attached to the Fable reboot, and that is why the character design of the protagonist is like this. Although there is no way to confirm this claim yet, fans have believed it and are now targeting the game more than ever.
Fable fans have said that Xbox needs to work on the character of the game if it wants the game to succeed, or no one will play it and it will end as a flop. Players have said that character customization in the game has to be present if the developers are going with this character so that players may make changes to physical attributes as they want.
As expected, character customization should be there, as modern RPGs do not launch without it, and with how far the technology has gone, players may easily be able to create the character they want to play with. Moreover, the Fable series is known for its ugly characters, even the protagonists, so probably developer Playground Games is aiming for a true reboot of the franchise.
