Witnessing Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis on the same screen wasn’t something fans could’ve imagined back in the ’90s. But the unexpected took place back in 2010, when The Expendables dropped, which witnessed three all-time action greats joining forces to take down the bad guys.

Although The Expendables doesn’t hold a candle to their other prominent IPs, including Rambo, The Terminator, and Die Hard, it still has its charm. And one of the movie’s most enthralling scenes sticks close to Stallone, which witnessed the three action icons sharing the screen.

Sylvester Stallone Was Dazzled by Witnessing the Trio Together

The Expendables did that no other flick preceding it was able to do, as it brought the holy trinity of the action landscape from the ’80s  together. While the movie had more to its plate other than Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sylvester Stallone, the iconic trio remains the highlight, and the scene involving the trio blew away Stallone. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Stallone explained,

“I was just looking at the dailies, saying, ‘Jesus, this is amazing!’ I talked about this scene with these guys for a long time, but I never thought it would come to fruition.” Stallone said

In the movie, Schwarzenegger plays the role of Barney Ross’ old rival, which reflects his history with the Rocky Star back in the ’80s and ’90s, as they went from fierce rivals to great friends in real life. Reflecting on the scene involving the three Hollywood icons, Schwarzenegger said, “There’s like $15 billion in that one scene” if one takes all the box office and DVD rentals into consideration.

Expandables 4 Fails to Revive the IP

Although the first entry in The Expendables franchise didn’t score high among critics, it did become a box office hit, following great performances from everyone on board. But the same can’t be said for the latest installment in the franchise, which opened with a mere 15% rating at the Tomatometer, making it the lowest-rated Expandables movie. Furthermore, Expandables 4 is not having a great time at the box office, unlike the last entries, as it opened to an underwhelming $8.3M debut, and the future of the IP moving forward doesn’t appear too bright.

But despite the IP’s shortcomings, it arguably remains a great inclusion to Stallone’s filmography, especially the first one, as it brought us one of the most historic moments in action history.
