Updating on the new Black Superman movie which is still in development since 2021, James Gunn said that the project is still on the board for the DCEU but the two projects are different.

“Those two things are totally unrelated. That’s an exciting movie. I know that Chantal Nong, who is the executive on that project, is extremely excited about it. So if it comes in and it’s great, which I haven’t read the script, and if the timing is right, that could absolutely happen. That’s totally unrelated. It would be an Elseworlds tale like ‘Joker,'” Gunn said.

Jordan playing Val-Zod, Jordan told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s flattered being the conversation.  “I’m flattered that people have me in that conversation,” the actor said. “It’s definitely a compliment, but I’m just watching on this one,” he added.

The rumor started when the actor was seen putting a Kryptonite pin while promoting his Amazon Prime film Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse in late April.  Fans quickly associated the actor with the new Black Superman character.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the project is also set to bring a Black director, however, no official reports regarding the actor and the director hunt indicate the validity of an official source.

When Polygon interviewed Ta-Nehisi Coates regarding writing the new Superman movie, the writer said that he don’t want to reveal much saying that Superman will have his space.

“I just worry that you are, however unintentionally, seeding ideas in people’s head. Now, look, there’s a point where you have trailers and things where I’m going to have to talk about it, but if it were up to me, I wouldn’t saJames Gunny anything ever until it’d been out and seen and consumed and all of that. I don’t want to get in the way. I want Superman to have his chance,” Coates said.

“I really want him to live. I want him to be greeted. I don’t want me and whatever baggage the narrative of me has to overshadow that. I’ve said things in the past when I was working on things, and I guess this is still true.”

Lastly, Coates said that he’d really like to recede and hopefully make something that folks feel is worthy.
