During the end of Phase 4 of the MCU, the fandom was in demand for the next adventure of the God of Thunder in the beloved Thor franchise, which was none other than Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Being the only 4th installment in the franchise in the entire MCU, fans were expecting something spectacular from the mind of the screenwriter-director, but the delivery of the final product was not something anyone expected.

Turning out to be a commercial failure for Marvel Studios was something that no one could’ve thought from a franchise like Thor. The disappointing narration that the film came to be remembered for was something that the fun-loving director couldn’t have fathomed beforehand. Thus, when fans came to know that the director had returned to the film due to having a lucrative deal left a bad taste in their mouth.

The performance of Thor: Love and Thunder was bad at the box office, all thanks to the narration of the story and character development which left a lot to be desired. Bringing down the almighty God of Thunder to the level of a modern-day superhero to portray him as a comedian as well as the narration that had more humor than substance made fans disappointed in the director as well as the character. Thus, it may not be shocking to hear that the only reason Taika Waititi came back for the fourth installment was that he was getting paid a large sum thanks to his lawyer.

During a press conference after winning the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay in Jojo Rabit, the star came up to the media and talked about how he had to not thank anyone for his award as all the work that went into the film was his hard work, sticking to his jesty persona. Then, he also addressed that he only has to thank his lawyer, who had fetched him a deal with Marvel Studios that allowed him to direct the fourth Thor film with a lucrative transaction. He said:

“I did remember everyone’s names but you don’t want to go up there and say a bunch of names, that seems like a waste of time. I’ve said to people before I came here, ‘If I go up, I’m not gonna thank you because why should I?’ I did all of the typing and no one else did. And all the words came from my head so why am I gonna thank my lawyer? I love him and he’s done great stuff for me — he got me a blood good deal on Thor: Love and Thunder, but he didn’t type anything on Jojo Rabbit.”

We don’t know how much the director was paid to do the film, but it is apparent that the company didn’t get the return on its investment that it would’ve liked.

While the fans might expect Thor to return on screen again in the MCU seeing as the threat of Kang the Conquerer looms over the Multiverse, there may not be such a possibility of it happening. As with the latest reports, it was revealed that Chris Hemsworth is in a condition of developing Alzheimer’s disease, which can bring an end to his career if it progresses. Thus, there may be a chance that the God of Thunder might leave the MCU for good.
