Back in the 90s, when Ben Affleck was just starting out and gained traction for his work in 1993’s Dazed and Confused, the actor joined forces with Kevin Smith to deliver several classics in the late 90s. And among all the films they collaborated with until their brief fallout, Chasing Amy remains one of their standout project, which helped elevate the duo’s career to new heights.
But considering the BVS star has come a long way since his days starring in the Kevin Smith rom-com, Affleck doesn’t look back much fondly at his work in the 1997 film for his lack of commitment in one scene.

Ben Affleck hasn’t failed to showcase his exceptional skills both in front and behind the lens, becoming one of the most renowned stars of our time. But it seems his kissing scene in Chasing Amy did leave a sour taste in Affleck’s mouth, as he believes he failed to deliver a convincing scene. The 1997 comedy involves a kiss between Jason Lee’s Banky Edwards and Affleck’s Holden McNeil, however, the BVS star wasn’t proud of the end product. The actor explained,
“The kiss is in there, but it looks like Tom & Jerry. It’s not anything good. I tried to go open-mouthed, but something in me was, ‘Take your tongue back.’ And I was like, ‘No, you can do it! Push!’ It was not my proudest moment.”
But Affleck’s comment about kissing his male star being the greatest challenge in his career, which resurfaced after Smith recounted the actor’s remarks, landed him in immense controversy.
Kevin Smith and Ben Affleck rekindled their bond after a brief fallout
After Kevin Smith recounted Ben Affleck’s alleged problematic remarks, the BVS star found himself in immense controversy, with even actress Rachel Wood taking a dig at the actor. However, Smith did later apologize and claimed the comments were taken “out of context, it’s a completely different sentiment. It got him into trouble.” But not long after the controversy, rumors surfaced regarding the duo’s friendship being tainted, and director Kevin Smith did go on to confirm that he and Affleck were no longer friends.
However, thanks to Kevin McCarthy, the pair rekindled their bond in the following years, as the BVS star would join forces with the director for Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks III.
Although Ben Affleck isn’t proud of his former self for not delivering his best to make the kissing scene more authentic, the movie remains one of his best works with Kevin Smith.
