When I was going for my last audition, I was driving, I was very nervous, and I had this driver – lovely guy – but a little bit too honest,” Holland shared, further adding, “he’s chatting to me… and you know I’m a polite person, but I also want to be like ‘Mate please shut up, I’m trying to learn my line.’

Recalling the incident that shattered his confidence, Holland shared what happened next.

And he goes, ‘You know what kid, I think you’re going to get it.’ And I’m like ‘Really?! Why?!’ And I was excited to hear that. He goes ‘You know what? I think you’re going to get it because the kid that I just drove there? He is so good-looking.”

Although the taxi driver must have had good intentions, he evidently drowned Tom Holland’s confidence. Certainly, in an attempt to motivate the actor, the taxi driver blurted comments that were too harsh for the then-budding actor.

Tom Holland Eventually Made It To Become Spiderman

While the driver claimed to have wisdom in his words, it naturally horrified Tom Holland. Especially as he was given the role of Peter Parker who was the uncool and unpopular kid from high school with spidey senses. However, Holland gathered his confidence and went forward with his journey as MCU’s Spider-Man.

To be honest, Holland wasn’t the first Spiderman who got criticized for his appearance, despite being extremely good-looking. Previously, Toby Maguire was called too old to play the role of a high school student in the Spider-Man movies. Even Andrew Garfield was pointed out to be extremely lean to be a superhero.

In the end, all three actors who played Spiderman did a wonderful job of portraying the character. Tom Holland being the youngest of all, turned out to be the ultimate “boy next door” choice for the films. He thus went on to appear in the MCU franchise as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man, who later found a mentor and quasi-father figure in Tony Stark aka Iron Man.
